The Area
Protaras Riviera
The Protaras Riviera is the name for Cyprus's far eastern coast — the shores around Protaras, Pernera and Kapparis, with Paralimni, Deryneia and Frenaros just inland. It is the sunniest corner of the island, and the reason most people come here is the sea.
Blue Flag swims
Cyprus leads Europe for the share of its beaches awarded the Blue Flag for water quality and facilities, and most of them are in the Protaras area.
Fig Tree Bay
The Riviera's best-known shore: a golden crescent of sand with shallow, clear water and everything you need along the front.
Cape Greco
A protected headland of cliffs, sea caves and coastal walking trails, with quiet places to swim below the rocks.
Villages inland
Paralimni, Deryneia and Frenaros keep the older rhythm of the island — markets, churches and long home-cooked meals.
Where to swim
The Riviera is a string of small bays rather than one long beach, so you can pick a different one each day.
Fig Tree Bay
Golden sand, shallow water and full facilities — the one everyone photographs.
Konnos Bay
Sheltered and green, with clear water that draws snorkellers.
Pernera Beach
A sandy, organised stretch a little further north along the coast.
A day out
- Swimming, paddleboarding and water sports along the coast.
- Boat trips out to the sea caves and hidden coves.
- A slow walk or drive round Cape Greco for the viewpoints.
- An evening in Paralimni rather than the resort strip.
Your corner of it
Villa Poseidon sits in Ayia Triada, between Paralimni and the coast — close enough that a beach, a taverna or a walk along the cliffs is never more than a short drive away.
